My name is Aidan Mahoney, and I am a Ph.D. Student at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (Advisor: Dr. Brian Soden). My research focuses on tropical cyclones.
I graduated in Dec 2021 from Cornell University, with a major in Atmospheric Science and minors in Climate Change and Business.
I am pursuing a career in meteorology and am excited to explore the many applications of my field. My coursework includes classes in forecasting, atmospheric dynamics, instrumentation, microclimates, python programming, and science communication.
Since May 2020, I have been a Pathways Intern at the National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch. For this internship, I am working with a team on an applied research project and working operational shifts as a surface analyst.
I serve as a Student Member on the American Meteorological Society’s Board for Operational Government Meteorologists and I am President Emeritus of the Cornell Chapter of the AMS. I also sing tenor with the Cornell University Glee Club.
During the Fall 2019 semester, I was enrolled in BIOG 3500 - Applied Science Communication. For my term project, I developed a communications strategy, podcast, and video for the impact of climate change on tropical cyclone activity.
I invite you to check out my page #CUSciStory, where I posted assignments and my final project.
